Frequently Asked Questions
I’m sure you have many questions about services at LifeWise. The most important is probably “Can I help you?” Please review the information below and then reach out if you need additional support.
General Questions
My goal when working with clients is to make you independent and successful without needing ongoing, professional support. In order to do this, I help you identify and correct the root cause of your issue as quickly and effectively as possible. That also means the more motivated you are, the more success you will have.
Sometimes. I can take only certain insurances, and some services are covered while others are not. Please indicate what insurance you have in your email to me if you want to know about coverage.
There are many ways to work with me. My general fee is $300 per session. I also offer private retreats for $1200 per day. In-home Neurofeedback training has a special rate.
You can contact me to ask questions or schedule a complimentary phone consultation, or you can book an evaluation session to get started more quickly.
Private Retreat Questions
Each day of the retreat is equal to at least 1 month of really good therapy. We are able to continuously work on your goals without stopping and starting which creates momentum and allows for deeper work with better outcomes. Many individuals and couplesThe also find it difficult to attend weekly sessions, so the condensed format of a retreat allows for easier attendance.
Not at this time. Every retreat is private for an individual or couple so I can focus on your specific needs.
The retreat fee is $1200 per day and you can schedule 1, 2, or 3 days.
Private Retreats are generally held on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10am until 1pm Eastern Time. There can also be some flexibility to meet your needs.
All Retreats are currently offered virtually via a secure Telehealth platform. In the future, in person retreats will be available again hosted by Dr Helfand in his spacious office suite.
Neurofeedback & Brain Map Questions
I use amplitude neurofeedback training that keeps the client in control of their brain. I find this provides the best long-term results. If you are interested in other kinds of neurotherapy, entrainment and other neurostimulation devices are available.
NeuroMeditation combines Neurofeedback with ancient meditation practices to provide you with enhanced training. We can correctly identify what kind of meditation you should be practicing, and then help you monitor your brain to make sure you are doing it properly.
A Brain Map is like a multipoint inspection of your brain. It helps to identify areas that need support and areas that are functioning well.
The general fee for office visits is $300 per session. Many clients prefer home-training because of the convenience and affordability. When using in-home neurofeedback, you get unlimited sessions on your own. The first month is $1650 which includes 4 live trainings with Dr H. All additional months are $750 and include 1 live training with Dr H. Family discounts are also available.
Brain maps are $750 which includes the test in the office, analysis, and all recommendations.
Generally one session per week is enough with in-office training. This also depends on your treatment goals and how quickly you want to achieve them. Home-training usually requires 2-3 sessions per week for optimal results.
The average number of sessions for permanent change in someone’s brain is 30. Many people experience benefits in as little as 5-10. This can vary based on personal traits, number of goals, and regularity of sessions.
Most clients finish their treatment in 3-6 months, and in most cases they do not need to return for booster sessions unless a significant event has occurred (i.e. trauma, major stress, car accident). Some clients do find that working on a few goals initially is most helpful, and then returning to work on additional goals about a year later continues to improve their performance.
